Goal Update – 3rd Quarter

The year is just about done and I really cannot believe it. I do not think I am quite prepared for the next year to come. Check out my last post though Goal Update – 2nd Quarter to see how things have gone in the last three months.

  • Quitting smoking (again).

Still not revealing why.

  • Buying and moving to the small town.

We bought a house at the end of July! Although we were not planning to till closer to the end of the year.

  • Dealing more with clients in the office.

Still pretty much deal with clients on items that I have worked on. It does seem some clients are more comfortable asking me their question(s). I would say it is moving forward.

  • Making sure things stay caught up and the new procedures are followed in the office.

I am sure I had this as a goal last year and it will probably be my goal for next year. Still has not happened yet though.

  • Cutting my debt in 1/5 from the beginning of 2017.

I just about had half of my debt paid off. I had a couple small set backs. Right now it is very important to put money into our savings. So, I am still about half way paid off. I will take this as I do not owe more money since the last update.

  • Keep my time and life organized.

Time and life have gotten a way from me. I do have a bit of a time limit though to get things caught up though.

  • Staying on top of the blog.

I am just not going to bother touching this one again.

Goal Update – 2nd Quarter

First of all I would like to say Happy belated Canada Day and Happy early 4th of July!!

We really have flown through the first half of the year and to be honest; the second half will be no different. Of course check out my last post Goal Update – 1st Quarter to see how things have gone in the last three months. Other than that lets get right into where things are now.

  • Quitting smoking (again).

This has been done but I am still not revealing the reason why just yet.

  • Buying and moving to the small town.

This was originally two separate goals. This has not happened yet but we will see in the near future.

  • Dealing more with clients in the office.

Still pretty much deal with clients on items that I have worked on. It does seem some clients are more comfortable asking me their question(s). I would say it is moving forward.

  • Making sure things stay caught up and the new procedures are followed in the office.

This is just no ha-ha. It will get there but it still has not worked out in our favour. Yet.

  • Cutting my debt in 1/5 from the beginning of 2017.

I am just one month a way from having half paid off! Which is incredibly exciting in my opinion. When I set these goals, this one in particular, I wanted them to be achievable. It turns out I have underestimated myself a little bit but life has also worked out in my favour which does not always happen for everyone.

There are a lot of variables for the remaining of the year but I expect to 3/4 paid off at least. As long as I keep making an honest effort and I do not set myself back once the goal is complete. I will be satisfied.

  • Keep my time and life organized.

Still has not happened for me! Even if I had gotten somewhere with this it would be changing any ways. In the mean time I am trying to let go of possessions that do not have any place in my life. I think this help when I can get around to organizing life/house again.

  • Staying on top of the blog.

I am just not going to bother touching this one.

How I Got Started in my Career

I mention it here and there through out the blog. The thing is I am not really sure what to call myself. I am not an accountant and will not say I am one. I have not done the schooling to be able to claim that label. However I am not just a bookkeeper either. I do a lot of different things. Lets start from the beginning though.

At the beginning I was working as a manager at a financial institution in 2013. I could not handle somethings that the job involved, I felt guilty most of the time. That was when, my mother who constantly said I should go into her field of work, I decided to give bookkeeping a shot. She was ready to leave an account she had and I went in to pitch my services. The advantage I had was I have my mother. She new the account and could help me along the way. I started out slowly with that and then I helped with preparing T1s (personal taxes) that year as well.

I did the bookkeeping thing (for only the one account) for a year and a half I believe. Maybe it was two. We mutually dropped the account and I had to figure out what the hell I was going to do. That was when my relationship was done and I went back to driving 45 minutes for work each way. Till I moved back spring 2014. I helped with T1s again for the second time and helped out with bookkeeping at the office. This continued on for 2015.

During the fall of 2015 I did payroll when my mother and stepfather went on vacation. I was a little more involved when it came to clients. Although still was not sure where things heading for me. When 2016 hit things moved a little faster. I took on more of the office responsibility. I took more of an on charge response to T1s and dealt with clients more often. After tax season I took on payroll completely and have been doing it since. I am not all knowing when it comes to payroll but I definitely have it down pat.

Now entering 2017 I will be taking on even more. Collections, bookkeeping, payroll, T1s, T4s, tax reports, and pretty much everything excluding T2s (business taxes). At this time I have chosen not to proceed with T2s. They are much more time consuming and I see how frustrating they can be. I really do not know what label I should use when people ask what I do. I tend to list off a few things that I do. Currently I use office manager for clients or prospective clients.

Back to the point though. I started in my career because I could not do my current job at the time any more. I decided to give in to my mothers suggestion and give bookkeeping a shot. It all grew and moved forward from there. I love my career and I love being to help people. Understanding the Government can be a hard thing to do; we do not always understand them either. I feel even better when I can help those who really need it, from those that rely on social credits and have the Government holding them back (usually for the most ridiculous reasons) to those who are new Canadians or have trouble grasping the English language. I get to help people and not solely worry about the bottom line. This is what I want to do.

Tax Season is Over; Back to Life

About a week ago here I had started a post saying I would be back after tax season. While it has not officially ended (tax law(s), due date(s), and anything involving taxes is never really just simple) our rush seems to be over. So, while I have some stuff to get done before I am regularly back here I am confident enough to say expect it ha-ha.

Before tax season got going for us (these are not super long hours, FYI, but it is very mentally draining) Effie was moving up here, I had a blog schedule made up for the next four – five months, and I kind of felt like I could make things happen. Starting with the blog schedule I apperantly felt I could start it off during my busy season and that clearly did not work out. I will be looking at creating a new one…once I find the one I previously created.

Now Effie did move up here, for about 5 weeks. I will not be going in to detail with this because there really is no need to. With that being said other things are going on in my personal life though it will be a bit before I decide to post anything on that. There are some ‘concerns’ to say the least. That may not be the right word to use but things have just been up and down in that area.

I have not lost hope on making things happen. I will be making things happen one way or another. I do not think I will be trying the roommate thing again or not anytime soon. I worries when I leave my dogs with other people. While it is not their job to watch them it is also not fair to kennel them when someone else is in the house. Or to have strangers always coming in and out of the house as Galaxy is a guardian breed and will take her job seriously. My pay type has been switched (not my wage, kind of) which means that I will be able to budget things much better and have things paid off (in more time than my original plan though). The catch to that is I have been taking on more things around the office.

I do not really go into work here anymore. I actually think I have not done that for almost a year now. It had nothing to do with breaching confidentiality since I would never disclose any of that kind of information. I would like to bring in budgeting, bookkeeping, and even tax information (for Canada) in the future. I just do not think I am at that point yet. Something that will take much planning to get started.

While this was quite the post, I need to be going and I am hoping to have things back up and running next week. Not sure where I am going to start but I will get it figured out.

New Pen Friends (Hopefully)

I went and registered for International Pen Friends about 3 weeks ago now. I had found a few links to the website based in Finland and I decided to give it a go. I was only able to find one review (this may have just been me and not the fact there is not any out there). I got nervous because this is a paid subscription. I took my chances. Well, I am an impatient person to begin with so waiting for an email just made me that much more nervous that I was ripped off.

Yesterday I in fact received my list of new pen friends. I am quite excited. I have 2 out of 15 written up to this moment. I go to the post office tomorrow and I am hoping to get two more letters done tonight. That means I should have five to send (I did not make it to send my other pen friends letter).

So far I have these following (including my current friends)

2 x USA

1 x Hong Kong

2 x Australia

2 x England

1 x Belgium

4 x France

3 x Germany

1 x Italy

1 x Qatar

I would say I got enough of a selection. I was not looking for any where specific anyways. There are also a few males in that list. I have yet to write to any males (besides my cousin when he was incarcerated) so that will be a new experience that I am looking forward to.

I am not about to assume that all 15 are going to right me back but it would be amazing if they all did. I mean the first letter sets the impression but I like to babble so I am not sure how well they will get read. I also believe that my address will be given out to 10 people in the same fashion.

I still am waiting to hear back from my one pen friend though to see how she liked her parcel. I know that it was much larger than anything that had been sent before but I had to make of for months of not writing back.

I need to get back to work so I can get on my way back home. I have chores and letters to do!
