This was a couple weeks ago I believe we haven’t really had snow. So she has been making the best out of it (crushing it all so we dont have to shovel paths ha-ha)
Month: January 2016
Weekly Menu: January 24, 2016
This will be the first post of this kind. I did a DIY of a Weekly Menu Planner. I have been using it, although it has a been a long adjustment (I know less than a month and I feel like its been forever). The second week I did not update and the third week I did not really follow it. I had things that seemed to go bad quickly and I went out for dinner/lunch with my Mother the one day. I think I have this figured out though. There are going to be some items that I prepare on Sunday for certain meals. A good example of this would be my dressing for coleslaw. It is a basic cream/vinaigrette so we (our whole family) also use it for all kinds of salads.
Here is my menu for the week. I like how it looks so hopefully I can stay with it. I will let you know at the end of the week anyways!
Sunday- Butter Chicken, I think this is pretty self explanatory
Monday – Spaghetti Squash, this all depends if the squash is still good or not. I will use a red (tomato) sauce and also add a meatless chicken cutlet. I think its similar to a chicken parmesan (I could be wrong but it might be healthier too). I love it!
Tuesday – Some Like it Hot, this is a name off one of the local restaurants menus and I really don’t know what else to call it ha-ha. Pasta with an alfredo sauce, corn, mushrooms, onion, and shrimp. This is a HOT dish, I use crushed peppers in the alfredo sauce and when I boil the pasta I put in chilli infused oil. You can feel the burn on your lips 😛
Wednesday – Turkey and Coleslaw, for the most part straight forward. I will still have NAAN bread left over so I will use a piece of that. Top it off with coleslaw and the turkey burger. Maybe a couple other ‘burger’ toppings depending on how I feel.
Thursday – Stir Fry, the type will all depend on what I am feeling that day.
Friday – Fried Veggie Sandwich, what ever veggie I need to use up in the fridge will get fried.
Saturday – Left Overs, now if there are no left overs I consider it an open day for what ever I feel like having.
Food: the Good and the Bad
I love to cook food and I love to eat it even more. Food does not seem to be such a fan of me though. My body does not handle breads or meats very well. Now this saves on my food bill like no tomorrow. However I can cook like you’re grandmother (assuming she was a good cook). Not only can I do some serious home style (western and German) meals; my exotic cooking is not terrible either. I miss having people around who can eat this stuff and seeing them truly enjoy it.
The other problem I have is that I am only one person (not a person who eats a whole lot either). So, I get to eat left overs for the next couple days (3 days max). Sometimes it just feels so boring. My other problem is that I still find myself cooking the poor mans way. I do not have to do that anymore, I have not had to get my food from the food bank in six years! I want to get over this hump, I worked hard to be able to cook/eat with a little flair.
Product Reviews?
I know these are popular on YouTube (yes I’ve been binge watching everything) or it would seem that way. I know there are blogs also dedicated to reviewing products and subscriptions. Anyone who remembers my blog before I had a huge life change knows I did do reviews of subscriptions. Not dedicated of course (I don’t have that kind of money). I did enjoy it and surprises are great, especially when they come in the post.
I did one review of the Little Life Box and it wasn’t for our household. Now that I am on my own it’s a different story, I’ve gotten it for a few months now and I am enjoying it. I didn’t get Fab Fit Fun this last season because it is a lot of money when the Canadian dollar is so far down. I will go back when I can make it work (or if things even out again). Same with the Horror Block, I have suspended it until things get smoother (I occasionally purchase a box I know I’m going to love).
I suppose I got off track with the original thoughts. I’m wondering if it is something that would be worth doing again. More products than subscriptions to begin with. I know everyone subscribes for different reasons (this is something I’m going to do in another post). I know the whole ‘it’s your blog and do your own thing’. I do this but if I feel like it’s not going anywhere I just remove it all together. So if any one has thoughts on this I would love to hear them, till than I’m just thinking about it.
Got to love the never ending fine tuning process.
This Year is Going to be Exciting
So, I was going to make a post Monday night when I officially got my offical news but I didn’t get around to it. It is now Tuesday evening and I thought (you will see this Wednesday morning) I should get this done before I sit down and do more work. I mentioned in my 2015/2016 post that Effie and Little M might be moving up here. My official notice for the official month is March!! I am excited even though it is very much unknown.
I don’t know exactly when in March (I am sure Effie doesn’t have an exact date picked out either) but it’s better than not knowing anything. I plan on talking to my landlord when he gets back from Vacation. I had mentioned something about this back in the fall just to see if it would be a problem and I didn’t get the feeling.
Effie does know the address to the blog but I don’t know if she’s been looking at it at all. Not that I put anything too personal on here anyways.
Little M won’t be here right always, which I am sad about that a little. Him and his dad are going to stay at the current house till we get things figured out. Besides with it being tax season March/April I wouldn’t be able to provide as much help as would be needed. I think it’s great that they will get lots of one on one time anyways.
I think I will leave it there. Now I am off to bathe Bullet, work on the pantry a little more, and than get some work done.
